We are excited to announce the official launch of the ELEKTRA project — ADVANCED ELECTRIFICATION OF KEY INDUSTRIAL REACTIONS — kicked off 13th May in Madrid, Spain.
Funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) under the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101294850), ELEKTRA is a 48-month project that will design, build, and demonstrate three intensified, electrified reactors to replace conventional heat-driven units in ironmaking.
Coordinated by Iberdrola and supported by 1 Cube BV, which also led the proposal preparation, ELEKTRA brings together 15 partners from 5 European countries, combining expertise in steel, materials, electrified reactors, plasma, membranes, process engineering, and sustainability assessment.
The project will develop key technologies for Top Gas reforming, CO₂ splitting, and ammonia cracking, contributing to the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries and the advancement of sustainable industrial processes.
The kick-off meeting marked the beginning of an exciting European collaboration towards industrial innovation and electrification.
